MEMO:  To  Underground Science User Community

FROM:  Jose Alonso, Director, Sanford Lab at Homestake

SUBJECT:  Clarification of Call for Proposals dated March 3, 2008

Based on the substantial number of enquiries received, I believe, lest there be
misunderstandings, that it is important I clarify the intent and scope of my Call letter.

The purpose of the Call was to identify experiments or activities (such as R&D) that
are ready for deployment (or will be in the very near future), have funding in hand,
and are requesting access to the underground facilities at the Homestake site.
Proposals submitted by April 2 will be evaluated by our Program Advisory
Committee that will meet during the April workshops in Lead (20-26), and will
be prioritized according to scientific merit, readiness, and appropriateness for the
current state of our site.

I am seeking assistance from our PAC to develop the best scientific program for
the Early Implementation Program of the Sanford Laboratory.  We do not have
the resources to fund experiments, R&D activities, or other requests for support
such as travel, manpower or equipment purchases or development.

I hope that this information will assist you in planning your response to the Call.
Please contact me if you have further questions via e-mail, Jose.Alonso@state.sd.us,
or by phone at (605) 722-8650.

Best regards,
Jose R. Alonso, Director
Sanford Laboratory at Homestake
